ACL (Incomplete)

(The Drive-By Series is the random stuff that happens between the parties)

I lost the roll of film that contained my Austin City Limits daytime photos somewhere between the bar and the house party. Photos of Bloc Party, pinup on the golfcart, money, Korean brunch, backstage celebrities, pinup girl #2 near the guitars, austin local shops and landmarks are all on a single roll of 36 Japanese film somewhere in a Texas bush.

Click on Ghostland Observatory to see the photos I didn't lose like 2 Fashion shows, the alien, Austin Airport, duck confit, my Austin neighbors, the crowd from Flosstradamus' perspective, long lost Chu, the Spin House, drive-in bank tellers, one of the entrees from my Uchi dinner with Scott and... beauty.

Nice picture!!

I would let her for 15 minutes of fame!

wow, what an intense debate.
looks can be deceiving though... i spoke to the "confident" woman who was mentioned above and got the impression that she would have sucked a dick to get her picture taken.
is that too catty? i won't be offended if this doesn't get posted, but seriously though.

In defense of my comment, I think that my brand of feminism is different than yours. I stand by my statement that beautiful women are luxuries; to me, this is one of the many ways that women empower themselves. Beautiful women aren't beautiful to please men, and if they are, then they're doing it for the wrong reason. Porn isn't empowering. Confident and tasteful photos are.

In reference to #7, keep in mind that the audience of lastnightsparty is greatly varied. Some people come to look at the photos, others come to look at the...well... the tits.

Lastly, I'm confused as to why you would end your comment with such a seemingly anti-feminist quote. Explain yourself...

Now go get me a slurpee, bitch.

1st of all: PLEASE read my disclaimer. I'm giving a feminist perspective as a sort of devil's advocate so please keep that in mind.

Mukai says, "gorgeous women are a luxury to be enjoyed, as rich foods are." Objectify much?

Well they do other stuff, too as you can see, there's a girl bringing Bronques popcorn and soda. Ooops, maybe not the best argument. I'm inclined to think she just had more energy than others present.

I'm not saying that Bronques is actually objectifying women, but one can see how people may think so. I know that Bronques really is a feminist, and I thought his au naturelle post was great.

Back to the antithetical nature of my post, I will have to resist singling out individuals for negative commentary, but I will say that #7 would look just as beautiful with a shirt on, but how many people would click the link to see it enlarged?

"Men look at women. Women watch themselves being looked at. . . . The surveyor of woman in herself is male: the surveyed female. Thus she turns herself into an object."
-John Berger, 1972

I'm going to have to disagree with the lovely Anita here... Just because these women are juxtaposed with food doesn't mean they are items of consumption themselves. If anything, these gorgeous women are a luxury to be enjoyed, as rich foods are. But of course, that is not the sole purpose of either. And anyone who knows Bronques knows he loves food as much as he loves women...

If you need further reassurance, look at the woman in the seventh picture. (Look at her FACE, perverts...) She is so confident and doesn't seem vulnerable in the least. The partial nudity is almost an afterthought like, "Oh, yeah, my breast is hanging out".

The women in these pictures are not like those in American Apparel ads (vulnerable and looking like they have a belly full of roofies). Those photos I consider sexist, but that's a whole different comment.

Mukai

P.S. Why was there no commenting on the last drive-by? I had so much to say!

Sorry, that last comment was a total tangent. Here goes:

A topless woman is automatically vulnerable because clothing is a defense that she doesn't have at that moment.

Humans use articles of clothing to defend their bodies from the elements and assaults from other people.

Not having clothing you are more vulnerable, you've lost one of your most basic defenses. That's why we consider people who don't mind taking their clothes off confident, they're willing to go against natural instincts by rejecting defense. It's also why people who aren't confident take their clothes off in public; it's any easy way to make people think you may be (psychologically) stronger than you really are.

It's the women for consumption thing I don't quite buy into.

This drive-by is great in how it represents everything that feminists seem to hate about LNP.
There's the obvious ones of topless women trying to get their 15 minutes and runway models. But there are more subtle aspects to this view. Some may say women are being shown as objects of consumption.
There are pictures of half eaten dinners between pictures of vulnerable women in compromising positions and there is the picture of a woman in front of a newsstand that sells magazines, newspapers, Dorritos, and beverages-- items that are used and then thrown away.*

But what do I know.

*Disclaimer: The thoughts expressed above are not necessarily mine. I still don't know what I believe.
